And How to Change It
A conversation shifts — and you feel it too late.
You agree when you meant to pause.
You replay something hours later, knowing you’d handle it differently now.
You’ve seen these moments.
You just haven’t had a way to work with them.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a practical change technology.
It works with how people organise their experience — how attention moves, how meaning is formed, and how behaviour follows.
For over twenty-five years, I’ve used it as a business coach, life coach, and consultant:
– helping people resolve what’s held them in the past
– navigate difficulty in the present
– and operate more effectively going forward
This training teaches you how to do the same.
It’s not random.
It’s pattern.
Patterns repeat.
They become easier to trigger — and harder to interrupt.
What begins as a moment becomes a tendency.
What becomes a tendency starts to look like personality.
What looks like personality starts to feel fixed.
It isn’t.
But it does need to be seen.
Most people don’t struggle because they lack intelligence or effort.
They struggle because, in certain moments, something takes over.
Individually, these moments seem small.
Repeated over time, they are not.
They shape decisions.
They shape relationships.
They shape direction.
Not dramatically. Quietly.
And that is why they are missed.
What this Looks Like in Practice
A senior manager describes a difficult conversation with a team member.
He explains what happened.
Why it went wrong.
What he would do differently next time.
It all sounds reasonable.
Until you slow it down.
You notice the moment his attention narrows.
The point where he assumes agreement.
The shift in tone that closes the conversation without him realising.
He sees it.
Not as an idea. As it happens.
The next time he’s in that situation, the same moment appears.
But this time, he notices it.
And instead of continuing automatically, he pauses.
The conversation goes differently.
That is NLP in practice.
You’ll see this in leadership conversations. In client work. And in your own responses, often in the same day.
What’s Actually Happening
In any moment, three things are interacting:
- where your attention goes
- how you represent the situation internally
- how your body responds
These processes are fast. Often outside awareness. But they are not random. They follow patterns.
Once you can recognise those patterns, you are no longer reacting after the fact.
You are responding while it is happening.
That is the difference.
How the Week Works
This is a seven-day, in-person intensive.
Each day builds on the last.
On the first day, most people notice something simple but unexpected — how quickly their own responses organise themselves, before they’ve had time to think.
By midweek, that same recognition begins to extend outward.
You start to see the moment someone else’s state shifts — often before they say anything.
And instead of reacting to what’s already happened, you begin to influence what happens next.
Across the week, you move from:
- recognising how experience is structured
- to reading subtle shifts in others
- to working precisely with language and attention
- to identifying and interrupting behavioural patterns
Each day combines demonstration, guided work, and live interaction.
You are not watching examples.
You are working with real responses, in real time.
If something works, you will see it happen.
Who This is For
People arrive at this training from different places.
Some lead teams and want to understand what’s happening beneath the surface of conversations.
Some work with clients and want to create change more precisely.
Some have simply noticed their own patterns — and want to do something about them.
Whether your focus is professional or personal, the underlying patterns are the same.
And once you can see them, you can work with them.
No prior experience is required.
Who This is Not For
This is not for people looking for scripts, surface techniques, or quick fixes.
The work is practical—but it is not superficial.
Meet Your Trainer
Paul O’Neill is a Licensed Trainer of NLP with the Society of NLP, with more than twenty-five years’ experience working with individuals, teams, and organisations across Australia, the UK, North America, and beyond.
In one engagement, he worked with a leadership team where meetings consistently drifted into agreement without challenge.
Not because people agreed — but because no one recognised the moment dissent disappeared.
Within a session, the team began to see the shift as it happened.
By the following week, meetings changed.
Fewer discussions.
Clearer decisions.
Less rework.
